The Empress is strongly connected to yesterday’s card, The Queen of Pentacles. These very fertile cards speak strongly of motherhood.
If you’re not planning on a pregnancy, be sure to take extra precautions for a time. If you are planning on a new addition, this would be a great time to try!
Pregnancy being quite unlikely for me, I have steered more towards Mother Earth and The Goddess.
I love this time of year, Mabon and Samhein are my favorite Sabbats, and consequently I feel a deeper connection to the earth during this time. I love the beauty of the trees, cloaked in their richly colored leaves. I am drawn outdoors to observe and admire this yearly spectacle. The milder weather is a bonus too.
I have always had a natural affinity for the dark side, so I have gravitated to the dark and crone Goddesses by instinct. During this time of quiet inner reflection, I am in my natural element.
The Empress card, from the Witches Tarot, shows Demeter. Demeter is the Greek Goddess of the harvest. She is a mother and fertility symbol. Now, during Mabon, she bears her last fruits for the year, before she begins mourning for her lost Daughter, Persephone, plunging the earth into the sterility of winter.
